Track rollers are applied for mini-excavators, heavy excavator, bulldozer and dozer gradedfrom 2T to 150T. In the design of the track roller of a crawler hydraulic excavator, the wheel shaft is usually made of bar stock, and then a finite element analysis is performed on the strength of the shaft.

Due to various conditions, we mainly use static load when doing finite element analysis and conduct it under static conditions, which is quite different from actual working conditions. Considering that the working conditions of crawler hydraulic excavators are relatively harsh and there are often relatively high requirements for the reliability of the wheel and axle operation, the strength of the bar calculated theoretically cannot meet the requirements of actual use.

In order to avoid the wheel axle from breaking during actual operation, GT decided to use 42CrMo steel forged bar stock. At the same time, the actual bar specifications were slightly higher than those calculated theoretically. After the wheel axle material is forged, its strength is significantly improved, and the structure of the wheel axle is denser, which can further ensure the wear resistance and reliability of the wheel axle.

As shown in the figure on the right, in the design of a certain type of excavator roller, using a diameter of 40mm in our theoretical calculations and finite element analysis can meet the requirements, but in practical applications we will use an axle with a diameter of 44mm.
